One canoe, two. Shortly after starting the company, Carrie’s sister-in-law Karen Shryock to join the team. Now three women strong and creative as ever, 1canoe2 creates letterpress art that continuously makes people happy in its cheerful, colorful, & imaginative designs.

Dear bedazzled bodies of alluring embellishment,
Your daily wardrobe is deemed complete when draped with the ultimate pendant, impeccable bangle or essential earring. Subtle, earthy, sleek, intricate, daring, raw, or refined; jewelry has the power to connect us completely to our definitive character. Hypnotized, we revere your jewelry box, layered deep with profound extensions of your crowned charisma and distinct charm.
Gold and Silver, basked in their ever-bearing precious metal splendor, shine with a raw and effortless illumination worth getting to know.
Gold is a soft metal, which typically requires additional metal mixtures to ensure longevity in your everyday wearing pleasure.
How to measure:
A karat defines the percentage of pure gold found in a piece. Here are the specific numbers to correlate:
24 Karat: 99.9% Pure
22 Karat: 91.7% Pure
18 Karat: 75% Pure
14 Karat: 58.3% Pure
12 Karat: 50% Pure
10 Karat: 41.7% Pure
Three methods of gold jewelry fabrication worth contemplating when honing in on your gilded prize:
1. Gold-Filled: Gold is bonded to a base metal alloy, such as nickel or brass, typically making up no less than 5% of total weight and all exterior portions are made of solid gold. Most tend to be 18K, but deviations are possible.
2. Gold-Plated: A base metal is dipped into an electroplating solution that deposits a thin layer of gold on the jewelry. The gold layer is relatively thin compared to other treatments, causing it to wear more quickly.
3. Gold-Vermeil: This method uses sterling silver as the base metal in a gold-plated construction technique. The highest quality gold vermeil is 24K but can be made with varying qualities.
4. Solid Gold: Prized for its rarity and golden glow, this is a solid 24K piece of jewelry. Though it appropriately sits at the top tier of precious metals, and is priced accordingy, gold's delicate chemical nature requires it also be tended to with extra purpose and caution in order to maintain its original glow and beauty.
Silver, undeniably popular because of its malleable and affordable qualities, this precious metal holds its own among consumers and craftsman alike. Silver, like gold, is inherently soft and is commonly mixed for durability purposes.
Three silver jewelry fabrication methods to muse when selecting your new shimmering adornment:
1. Fine Silver: Also known as pure silver, its .999 level of purity lends itself to be worn only on occasion because of its delicate nature.
2. Sterling Silver: This is an alloy that contains a mixture of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of another metal, usually copper. The addition of another metal makes this a standard among silver grades to ensure durability in regular use.
3. Silver Plated: A base metal is dipped into an electroplating solution that deposits a thin layer of fine silver on the jewelry. The silver layer is thinner and wears more quickly than a sterling silver treatment.

Is there a difference between precious and semi-precious gemstones?
--No! Though precious stones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, & emeralds) are commonly determined as more rare and expensive, there is no outlying difference in chemical makeup to differentiate them from that of a gemstone deemed semiprecious. Real value of a stone is determined by its cut, color, clarity, and carat – each rating independent to the type of stone under scrutiny.

Cooking is easier, more enjoyable, and produces better results when done with the right equipment. And with the holiday cooking season infringing upon us, we are eager to showcase Le Creuset, our favorite cookware line available at Nest. The mainstay of chefs for more than a century, Le Creuset is synonymous with both exceptional craftsmanship and dazzling style. An innovator in high-quality, indispensable cookware, Le Creuset is constantly seeking ways to maintain its renowned reputation for bold colors and long-lasting versatility.
Forging modern cookware standards:
During the French culinary revolution of the 1920s, Le Creuset was founded when Armand Desaegher, a casting specialist and Octave Aubecq, an enameling expert, joined forces. Together they transformed the appearance and enhanced the cooking properties of cast iron cookware by coating it in a porcelain enamel glaze. In 1925 the innovative pair launched the brand Le Creuset, French for "the crucible." Almost a century and countless trendsetting design innovations later, enameled cast iron is not only Le Creuset’s signature, it’s also the standard bearer in cookware.
Benefits of Enameled Cast Iron Cookware:
No other manufacturing procedure yields cookware that so evenly distributes heat, browns, and caramelizes food to perfection. Aside from cast iron’s inherent characteristics that make it the superior material for cookware, some detailed benefits to Le Creuset’s cast iron process and products include:
Heat Distribution and Retention:
Cast-iron is a superior conductor of heat. The even thickness of the base, walls, and lid mean that heat distribution is even and energy efficient. Furthermore, the heat retention properties of the pieces are incredible, ensuring that the pot stays hot for second helpings.
Vitreous Enamel Finish:
All Le Creuset products are coated with the highest quality vitreous enamel. This hygienic, impermeable enameled surface means Le Creuset can be used for marinating food prior to cooking or for food storage after cooking.
Heat Sources and Energy Efficiency:
Le Creuset enameled cast-iron cookware can be used on the stovetop, in the oven and under the grill. Le Creuset is suitable for use on all heat sources including electric, gas, ceramic, halogen top, and induction. Le Creuset cast-iron is an efficient material in absorbing and distributing heat, therefore, there is no need to use high heat. Best cooking results are obtained on low to medium settings.
Phenolic Knobs and Handles:
Phenolic knobs are fitted to the lids of French ovens and saucepans. In simple terms, something with a phenolic quality is treated with a thermosetting resin coating to make it ovenproof. This property allows Le Creuset knobs and handles to become ovenproof to 400°F, allowing for an easy transition from stovetop to oven to table.
Tips to care for Le Creuset Enameled Cast-iron
- Select low to medium heat for best results – this will prevent food from sticking to the pan. Use high-heat for water-based cooking only.
- Use pots and pans that fit the burner size to assure proper heat dispersion.
- Gently pre-heat cooking vessel on low setting for 2-3 minutes then add oil or liquid to the pan
- Use only wooden, plastic, or heat resistant nylon tools to avoid scratching the enamel
- Stand hot pans on a trivet, board, or cloth, not directly on unprotected counter tops
- Cool pans before washing in hot soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly
- Remove stubborn food residues with a plastic or sponge scourer only *Do not use metal scourers or abrasive cleaners of any kind
Welcome additions made to the original Le Creuset cookware family:
Le Creuset's tri-ply stainless steel features a full aluminum core bonded between two outer layers of professional-grade stainless steel, resulting in superior heat conduction and distribution. Tri-ply construction offers better control at every stage of preparation, as well as flexibility for a variety of cooking techniques like searing, sautéing and pan-frying.
Stoneware fills a gap in the bakeware market and meets the high standards of today's gourmet baker. Protected by a hardwearing glaze that resists damage from heat and utensils, Le Creuset stoneware is perfectly suited to withstand countless trips into your oven. The secret to its performance lies within the balanced duo of stoneware and enameled surface heating properties, which prevent hot spots and cook foods uniformly. This results in baked good perfection!
Le Creuset’s forged hard-anodized nonstick cookware delivers nonstick performance with a seamless reinforced coating that will never chip or flake. The hot-forging process prevents warping and creates consistent heat distribution, making this material suitable for a wide range of recipes and ingredients.
Enamel on Steel:
Le Creuset enamel on steel cookware combines the capability of stainless steel with the style and character of Le Creuset's color palette. With a full range of stockpots and an array of teakettle designs, Le Creuset enamel on steel delivers all the high-heat performance of stainless steel without sacrificing the personality of your favorite colors.

Dear creature of handcrafted habit,
You recognize the time, devotion and determination it takes to create handcrafted goods. You find there is perfection in imperfection. Taking notice that quality and quantity are two very different concepts, you refuse short cuts. You know genuine dedication and hard work are worth applauding.
National American Craftsman week has just wrapped up, and we couldn’t pass up this opportunity to share just how important craftsman are to Nest. Beyond creating a unique product, we have an unwavering curiosity to know the background and intent behind every craftsman’s product. In seeking this connection, it is important to recognize the elements, finishes, patterns used to create product packed with substance and indisputable genuine qualities.
Below are a few of Nest’s beloved American Craftsmen and their unique story, embodying their authentic spirit and honest work principle:
Craftsman Kyle Ellison is a clever woodworker and founder of Kentucky Spring. He is motivated by the challenge of designing and making useful kitchen tools with moving parts that are simple, durable, and beautiful. His company, loaded with preservation of historical technique and thoughtful attention to material detail, is most recognized for its salad tongs. Each pair of tongs is hand steamed and bent into shape until cool to create its distinctive spring. The springs keep the tongs open for the user for simple one-handed use, while also allowing tongs to fold flat for storage. We appreciate and commend the design and thought behind Kentucky Spring's beautiful kitchen utensils.
Fig & Bella
From New York’s serene and inspirational Hudson Valley, Fig & Bella flaunts an anthology of beautiful wearable textiles well deserving of bragging rights. Their scarves and shawls are hand-dyed, hand-loomed, and hand-washed in the Hudson Valley. Using the finest fibers (cashmere, silk, wool & cotton), they are reinventing traditional dyeing techniques using a modern color palette and abstract texture. These gorgeous threads are subtle and casual, making for an extraordinarily unique every day statement.
Established in New Mexico, Everyday Artifacts is a husband & wife collaboration to design meaningful and minimal objects. The result is both startling and striking, shown in the simplicity of their necklaces. The necklaces’ photographic images, most originals by the company founders, are applied with detailed technique onto a metal pendant. Finished with a jewelry resin coating and hung on a lightweight nylon cord, Everyday Artifacts creates meaningfully unique pieces.
Hot Skwash is a family run business near Portland, OR, founded by the determined artist and seamstress, Daria Knowles. Her background boasts a degree in Art History, Classics & Humanities, several years of directing an art gallery, and a constant pursuit of artistic growth utilizing her passion for fabrics. After creating velvet pumpkins for several years on her own, her small business blossomed because of her decision to employ other stay-at-home moms. Working with local farmers, Hot Skwash harvests unwanted pumpkin and squash stems and recycles them into a luxurious feast of texture, color, and texture. Hot Skwash velvet pumpkins’ timeless whimsy and infinite attention to craftsmanship effortlessly provide you with an essential collection worth investing in and growing.
Marshes Field and Hills
Marshes Field and Hills is a company created by wife, mom, work professional, and craft enthusiast Stephanie Baynes. She says it was an accident that her company took off, but it is easy to see that her determined work ethic and constant pursuit of creativity is the true catalyst behind her success. Her customizable canvas pillows, totes, and key chains breath beauty in their utilitarian finishes, simple paint application, and roughly hewn edges. Marshes Field and Hills proudly epitomizes Stephanie’s original concept for beautiful, utilitarian product entirely hand-sewn and hand-painted within a local community.

You are the heart and soul of why Nest flourishes on a daily basis. You incorporate inspiration, choose colors wisely, and do more with less, all while keeping an open mind. You are constantly admired for embracing your individuality through the place you call home. From thread-count to paint color, your passion for styling impeccable decor is what we live and breathe for.
To kick off our twelve-month homage to Nest customers, the featured topic is something everyone is familiar with, but décor fiends take to a whole new fetish level: lighting. A hugely understated piece of the design puzzle, lighting has the power to make or break the entire impression a room. No matter what your style, the key to lighting is layering. A basic understanding of the four lighting layers will illuminate your décor vision to an impeccable stage of brilliance!
++There are four lighting layers: ambient, task, focal, and decorative. Here they are mingling and getting to know one another:
Ambient – Provides the overall lighting in a room. Its essential function is to allow for basic vision and moving around within the space. It also wields the greatest effect on the overall feel of a space. To create a relaxed space, it is important to increase the brightness of room surfaces, especially ceilings and upper walls. Generally the more uplighting the room has, the less fussy and more relaxed the room feels.
Task- Among visual and work tasks, such as reading, writing, and cooking, task lights illuminate spaces intended for specific actions. Typically they coincide with a flat work surface but don’t necessary need to as in the case of a reading chair or bedside lamp. Task lights generally require higher amounts of energy to produce a more focused and stronger light, so placing them wisely is a must!
Focal – The primary purpose of focal lighting is to illuminate features and displays, such as architectural highlights, artwork, and other collections. The name is a bit of a paradox because the light is meant to be inconspicuous and to draw the focus away from itself onto its illuminated desire.
Decorative - This is the jewelry of architecture. It serves no practical purpose other than to make a statement about style. Whether a chandelier, sconce, lantern, or strand of holiday lights, its reason for being there is to fill your heart with joy!
